Ceramics Workshop
Shenkar's ceramics workshop allows students to work with silicate materials, including clay, plaster and concrete. The workshop provides services to students from all departments and supports the interdisciplinary collaborations that take place at Shenkar.
The unexpected connection of ceramic materials with the disciplines taught at the college leads to new and refreshing projects, which incorporate the world of ceramics with textile, fashion, gold and silversmithing, and more.
As part of the studies in the Department of Industrial Design, students study a variety of ceramic processes, such as: mold making, casting and glazing.
As a rule, activity in the workshop places an emphasis on plaster as part of the ceramic production process, and promotes 3D printing methods for sculpting or building models.
The workshop equipment includes: a slab roller, extruder, electric potter's wheels and ceramic kilns that reach a temperature of 1,300 degrees Celsius.
