Accommodation

Whether visiting Tel Aviv for a short or longer duration, these tips will help you find the most comfortable accommodation needs for your stay. Whilst those looking for something cheaper and local to Shenkar campus might consider the area of Ramat Gan, with its affordable hotels and rental apartments, many opt for the zesty central parts of Tel Aviv, seeking a vibrant experience of the White City and the wonders it has to offer.

Central Tel Aviv

Covering a large area, the most desirable locations tend to reside in the central parts of Tel Aviv. At just a stone’s through away from the beach, many are willing to compromise on price for a bustling scene of bars, restaurants and trendy stores. From the hotel lined tayelet (promenade), moving inland, is the noisy Carmel Market and quaint Neve Tzedek district - one of the oldest parts of Tel Aviv. As you sweep further into the center, the artillery streets of Ben Yehuda, Bograshov, Dizengoff, and King George, thrive as young people real estate amongst the surrounding smaller roads that weave between. For a quieter ambience in the area - Lev Ha’ir neighbourhood right in the middle is the perfect escape.

Old North

The green-alley areas of the Old North are popular with middle class families and could be of interest to those wanting to stay a bit closer to Shenkar. Though somewhat pricier, the Old North is home to the grassy gem of the city - Park Hayarkon, great for outdoor sport routines. The park neatly connects up from the Tel Aviv Port, all the way down Shenkar, making it a scenic route for commute via bicycle or scoot.

South Tel Aviv

The gutsy neighbourhoods of South Tel Aviv have undergone a wave of gentrification over the years and now house a diverse mix of characters, from the hipster lined coffee shops of Florentine neighbourhood, to the bawling traders of the Levinsky Market, with its aromatic wafts of Middle Eastern spices. This area is popular with students in need of something a little cheaper yet energetic and central.

Jaffa

Those looking for something historic and unique should look no further than Jaffa. Split between old and new, this must visit area offers potential for both apartment rentals and boutique hotels. The trendy bars and eateries of Shuk HaPishpeshim sweep back towards the sea, approaching the clucking streets of Ajami where you will surely spot a rogue chicken or two on your way to the famous Jaffa Port. Though, the commute to and from Shenkar will be significantly lengthier.

Givatayim

Not far from Shenkar, residing further inland from the Ayalon Highway is a popular part of town known as Givatayim. Similar to the Old North, Givatayim is recognised as a family-oriented neighbourhood, due to its educational accomplishments, and environmental quality. The area may be considered a good option for international students planning to stay for a longer duration, in view of Givatayim’s proximity to Shenkar, its rental affordability (one can get a bit more for the money) and the busy high streets lined with bars and restaurants, offering a nightlife beyond the centre.

Long Term Stays

Searching for housing in Tel Aviv can be a bit of a minefield, especially in comparison to what most people are used to in their home countries. Nevertheless, you can take comfort in the fact that there are plenty of options out there, you just need to be patient, persistent and open-minded. Below are a few links and tips to find the best place for you:

Tel Aviv Housing for Students

Founded by Shenkar graduate Niv Gelb, these exceptionally renovated apartments can make for the perfect long term stay in Tel Aviv, with added benefit of sharing with other young people in the same complex.

Yad2

Yad2 is one of the best ways to find an apartment to rent. You can add filters for how many rooms, location, price and more. The only downside is the site is in Hebrew, so we recommend using it through the Google browser and adjusting the translation this way.

Dooron App

The Dooron app is easily downloadable and is used through WhatsApp and Facebook messenger. Through the chat you tell the bot what you are looking for and it sends a feed of updates when relevant apartments pop-up.

Social Media Groups

These groups can be a useful tool, but be aware the listings are usually in Hebrew, and some groups require you to fill out a form before you can gain access. In some cases, you can access private real-estate WhatsApp groups according to required number of rooms or neighbourhood of interest.
