Shenkar Partners with the Euro-Mediterranean University in Fez to Offer Tech and Smart Planning Workshops

In May 2023, Shenkar sent a delegation to the Euro-Mediterranean University in Fez, Morocco (UEMF), including the dean of the Pernick Faculty of Engineering professor Yoram Halevi, Shenkar department heads, senior faculty, and selected students from the departments of Software Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Interior, Building and Environment Design, as well as the School of Industrial Engineering & Management .

As part of this initiative, UEMF hosted two science workshops organized jointly with Shenkar.

One workshop, hosted by professor Halevi, focused on artificial intelligence for agriculture, environment, water and food security. The second was dedicated to artificial intelligence for smart transportation systems (ITS), mobility and urban planning and was hosted by professor Othmane Benmoussa, dean of the Euromed Polytechnic School.

The workshops included discussions and presentations about AI applications in civil and air transportation, hybrid models that combine machine learning and deep learning techniques with discrete choice analysis, land-use planning, urban planning and architecture, and the use of AI with data mining and big data processing.

UEMF students presented their research on the topic, and Shenkar students presented their graduation projects and other relevant work. Lecturers from the two institutions forged personal connections, laying the groundwork for future collaborations.

This event is the climax of the ongoing collaboration between Shenkar and UEMF and follows a parallel event held at Shenkar in January 2023. The event ended with concrete proposals for joint projects by the schools’ VPs, professors Salim Bounu and Shmuel Kenig.

Special thanks go to our partners at UEMF, professor Kenig for initiating the project and planning the academic content for the conference, and Shenkar’s International Office (in particular, Anat Yaari) for producing and organizing the project from A to Z.

Extra special thanks go to the Ministry for Regional Cooperation, which sponsored the delegation and whose support made this valuable academic collaboration possible.
