Dr. Alik Pelman

Dr. Pelman is a senior lecturer in the Master Degree in Design (M.Des). His research and teaching areas include: environmental thought; philosophy of technology; philosophy of natural and social sciences; philosophy of language, and metaphysics. Dr. Pelman regularly publishes and presents his research at national and international conferences, and serves as a peer reviewer for leading philosophy journals. He has been the co-researcher in two Israeli Science Foundation (ISF) studies. Dr. Pelman has been nominated “Outstanding Teacher” a number of times.
Alongside Shenkar, he serves as a research fellow at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Dr. Pelman holds a PhD in philosophy from the University of London (on an ORS scholarship), where he wrote his doctoral dissertation on the relations between language and reality.
Living in the Galilee, Alik’s home is an eco-hut that he built himself from natural local materials (including a green roof, passive cooling, mass heater, greywater system, solar power). There, he runs a small self-sufficient farm (wheat, vegetables, legumes, olive oil, eggs, honey). On his farm, he also instructs groups and gives seminars on practical ecology. Dr. Pelman is a graduate of the Heschel Fellows Program, at the Heschel Center for Sustainability.
