The Department of Software Engineering participated in the Cyber and Software Hackathon in memory of Barak Houry
In early January 2022, a computer, cyber and software engineering hackathon attended by dozens of students from different schools took place in Ramat Gan, with the aim of putting initiatives from the innovation and tech industry into practice. The hackathon was conducted in commemoration of Barak Houry, who participated in and won the hackathon last year, and whose young life was tragically cut short when he was hit by a car this past Yom Kippur.
The hackathon included 11 groups that combined pupils from various elementary and secondary schools. Students from Shenkar’s Department of Software Engineering and a programmer soldier from the IDF’s School of Computer and Cyber Professions Unit joined each group. The hackathon was conducted in a hybrid format combining in-person work with online lectures and assessment.
The topic of this year’s hackathon was “One Hundred Years for Ramat Gan: The Story of a City”, and all the ideas and initiatives that were put forward came from the participating pupils and students. The team of judges included the president of Shenkar, professor Sheizaf Rafaeli, as well as education professionals and mentors who instructed the pupils and students.
