Professor Alex Padwa Delivered a lecture to Members of the Shenkar Members Club

Shenkar Members Club, our Young Friends of Shenkar Club, hosted Shenkar’s friends for a fascinating evening that included a meeting with and lecture by professor Alex Padwa. Padwa is an industrial designer, the former head of the Industrial Design department, and the figure behind several high-profile projects, including designs for Citroen and Mitsubishi automobiles, and for the “Beresheet” spacecraft.

The lecture was about the inherent paradox in all design work: disciplined chaos, polite loss of control, and planned spontaneity – all essential tools of a designer, the contemporary alchemist. These tools have been demonstrated in various industrial design projects, including the spacecraft that came into contact with the moon more dramatically than planned. Due to time constraints, the lecture did not touch on the dark sides of innovation, the danger of intelligence or the power of boredom.

The Shenkar Members Club was established to connect members to varied Shenkar content, convene and support students and graduates, and promote innovative design activities. Members of the Young Friends of Shenkar enjoy Shenkar’s content and activities as part of their daily routine. In addition, they are invited to special events created especially for them throughout the year. The Young Friends will join the community of Shenkar supporters worldwide and enjoy international partnerships as part of the new dawn for the next generation.
