Workshop on screen printing as a tool for emotional expression; and in a collaboration with members of the Shenkar Student Union, the products of the workshop were then donated to the psychiatric ward of the Sheba Medical Centre at Tel HaShomer

While working together to brainstorm activities for this year’s “Good Deeds Day”, a special partnership was formed between the Shenkar Student Union and Shenkar’s Community Outreach Program. The two organizations collaborated in an effort to raise awareness about mental health struggles by learning techniques in textile design (screen printing) which facilitate emotional expression surrounding the subject.

“I offered to give my workshop, ‘Screen Printing as a Tool for Emotional Expression’,” says Kim Munoz Salazar, social projects manager of the Community Outreach Program at Shenkar.

Salazar is also a member of the Shenkar Student Union, and the two came together for the Department of Textile Design’s printing workshop. During the workshop, Student Union members were exposed to creative content born out of mental health struggles, and they learned a screen printing technique called “monoprinting”, which allows two-dimensional images to be printed on cloth.

On “Good Deeds Day”, the products of the workshop—around 90 silk screen prints—were donated to the psychiatric ward of the Sheba Medical Centre at Tel HaShomer by Salazar, Student Union Vice Chairperson Mai Saltzman, and Community Outreach Program Head Nurhan Abu Juman.
