Daniel Nawi won the Public Choice Award and second place overall at the international talent contest for fashion and design in Frankfurt

Daniel Nawi, a Department of Fashion Design student, won the Public Choice Award at the international talent contest Frankfurt Style Award with spectacular leisurewear designs she created during her studies. In an open vote on the contest’s Facebook page three finalists were shortlisted for the Public Choice Award, including the project designed by Nawi, which also won second place in the contest itself.

Hundreds of young designers from all over the world applied to participate in the prestigious contest, which has established its standing as one of the most important in its field. The international attention it has gained in recent years has made it a hub for identifying the most promising next-generation designers. Nawi’s spectacular modernistic design “My Pink Room” stood out among the projects participating in the finals and was very enthusiastically received.

Frankfurt Style Awards has set itself the aim of revealing and promoting promising designers at the start of their careers, with emphasis on avant-garde fashion and expression of an original personal language. The participants, who come from the world’s leading fashion and design academies and institutions, are given an exceptional opportunity to show their abilities and achievements to the industry’s world leaders, and gain behind-the-scenes experience of the vibrant contemporary fashion world.

The main theme of this year’s contest was “World of Contradictions” through which the young designers presented the challenges in fashion and society reflecting the spirit of the time. Two additional students from the Department made it to the finals together with Nawi, Shiraz Tweg and Roni Peretz, who also gained high accolades for their projects, which will be shown in special exhibitions in 2017 in Paris and Shanghai.

Last year Simo Marom, a fresh Department of Fashion Design graduate, garnered first place in the contest with his distinctive “Denim Couture”, which the judges described as “bold and impressive”.
