Curriculum: The Program of Master Degree in Design
The study program is spread out over two academic years, and students will need to complete 60 credits in order to receive the degree “Master of Design” (M.Des): 20 credits for core courses, 20 for elective courses and 20 for the final project.
The course lasts four semesters and provides students with the practical, theoretical and technological tools for the development of projects that raise questions and offer answers to diverse issues and have a dimension of design, conceptual, social, environmental and technological innovation. The curriculum combines studio work, participation in a weekly departmental forum that discusses design in the 21st century, theoretical classes, artist workshops and writing workshops, along with the possibility of leading independent design research under the guidance of various research centers in Shenkar.
Classes are held on Wednesday afternoons, Thursdays and Fridays to allow working students to combine a job in industry, or studio work, with the graduate studies, as well as engaging time with fellow designers and engineers studying on the program. The program allows a whole set of elective courses, offering collaborative work with different thinking patterns, diverse content and project-based engagement.
The studies within the master’s degree offer, among other things:
- Familiarity with current design tool, such as generative design, parametric design, sound design, neurodesign, design using artificial intelligence and more
- Leading an independent project in a research center in the fields of interaction design and textile innovation
- Theoretical courses, an advanced writing workshop and a seminar on the future of design
- Courses in design management and entrepreneurship
- Option to choose courses from the pool of master's degree courses in design as well as from the master's degree courses in digital game design and development
* Receipt of the degree is subject to the approval of the Council for Higher Education.
