Final Projects from the Department of Software Engineering Presented at International Conferences
The Department of Software Engineering at Shenkar is proud of its final projects, two of which were presented virtually at competitive conferences abroad this semester.
On September 12, 2020, Roni Polisanov and Haim Elbaz presented their final project, LookUp—in collaboration with Reut Leib and under the guidance of department head Dr. Yonit Rusho—at the prestigious EAI MobiCASE 2020 conference that took place virtually in Shanghai.
The project features a smart bracelet created with a 3D printer, which emits small vibrations every time the wearer approaches a turn on the road. The project includes a bracelet, an app and a unique vibration language specially developed for the bracelet.
The conference was one of the first in the world to be held virtually. The department graduates invited to present at the conference prepared a professional presentation according to the instructions they received from the organizers. Roni and Haim based the presentation on the one they had presented at the end of their software engineering studies at Shenkar, emphasizing the uniqueness of their project and adding details such as hypotheses, descriptions of functional requirements, verification processes, and more.
The second final project presented at a prestigious conference abroad this semester was by Department of Software Engineering graduates Yaniv Sapir, Alaa Halumi, and Niv Baruch, supervised by Dr. Yonit Rusho. They presented their project “2gather: Automatic Web Accessibility Support for Children with Disabilities” [S1] at the ICWU 2020: 14th International Conference on Web Usability and Web Accessibility[S2] . The project provides software and hardware solutions for programmers who want to make web systems accessible to people with special needs. The idea rose from the need to increase accessibility to “Tzamid”, a department within the Scouts Movement in Israel that provides online activities for children with motor disabilities at varying levels who cannot take part in the frontal social activities of the Scouts. The children who participate in these online activities took part in them long before the pandemic made online solutions routine.
The conference was held virtually in Spain on 25.10.2020, and Yaniv, Alaa, and Niv prepared extensively for it. They created a presentation based on the instructions they received from conference organizers and rehearsed until it was perfect.
Their hard work paid off, and the graduates received the Best Presentation award.
