A product designed by graduates of the Department of Industrial Design has been picked up for the new series by Ridley Scott!
Studio Prime is a design studio founded by graduates of Shenkar’s Department of Industrial Design Omri Barzeev and Etay Amir, together with David Keller.
Four years ago, they received an offer to design a product for Aclim8, a company set up by two special forces veterans.
Together with Boaz Zemer, another graduate from the department, and a team of designers, Studio Prime designed COMBAR, a durable outdoor multi-purpose tool that redefines a market that up until this point was mostly dominated by pen-knives.
This multi-purpose field tool is designed for outdoor use and includes a spade, axe, hammer, knife and saw.
COMBAR is made of durable materials, stainless steel with a cast titanium finish and an emphasis on the highest possible quality, “as befits two strict and pedantic army veterans”, says Boaz.
The device was revealed to the world two years ago through a Kickstarter campaign that raised more than 250 thousand dollars, along with an investment campaign in Israel that raised a similar amount.
Following successful fundraising and conclusion of the development phase, the tool underwent extensive field testing and went into mass production.
Moments before it went on sale around the world, it had just enough time to win the Red Dot Design Award and receive widespread praise and dozens of column inches, blog mentions and YouTube videos from backers of the campaign.
Today, the tool can be purchased via Amazon or through the company’s website.
“A year ago, a production team from HBO got in touch with the founders of Aclim8 regarding a new series by the director Ridley Scott set in a futuristic apocalyptic world. They had come across the tool, really loved it and wanted to use it in the series.”
Raised by Wolves is streaming on HBO MAX, and the product can be seen in the very first episode!
