Events for Returning Students at the Department of Software Engineering
The Department of Software Engineering is the largest department in Shenkar’s engineering faculty. In recent days, the department held a variety of academic and social events as part of the ongoing trend of growth and success. One of these was an event hosted by the department for second, third and fourth year students.
Each student received a name tag detailing their academic year and specialization (data science, web and cloud, cyber, or gaming). They were also given a bag, notepad and pen, Amazon mousepad, vouchers for virtual conferences and online Python courses, and more.
Special thanks are owed to the event's sponsors, one of whom, Lior Weizman of SAP.iO, gave a fascinating talk about exits, entrepreneurship, and the international and Israeli tech ecosystem.
A panel of graduates (Avraham Lahmi, Yoav Saroya, Natali Mahmali, Miri Nudelman, and Hen Aharon, moderated by Amit Bashari) discussed the pay gap between male and female developers, the advantages and disadvantages of working at a start-up versus a public company, the perspective of a software engineer recruiter, the importance of the portfolio that students develop during their studies in the Department of Software Engineering at Shenkar, and more.
The department head presented the second semester curriculum for each year group. The students wrote down measurable goals for the 2021-2022 academic year in the notepads they had been given, and there was a discussion about focus, talents, and more.
Yehonatan Alfasi gave a professional lecture about the five most important things necessary to obtain the job of your dreams in the tech industry.
The next day, the Department of Software Engineering at Shenkar welcomed 105 new students with a special “Hello First Years” event. In greeting them, the department head emphasized the inner motivation required to succeed in this challenging software engineering degree; giving them their first motivational boost.
Later a meeting with all the department faculty was held, during which the coordinator of the Department of Software Engineering at Shenkar gave out excellence awards. Amit Dunsky received an excellence in lecturing award for his contributions to specialized courses throughout the degree in the fields of cloud computing and security. Yuval Ozeri received an excellence award as an assistant lecturer for his contributions to all programming courses in the Department of Software Engineering at Shenkar.
