The Dynasty Continues: Dr. Naum Naveh Appointed President of the Israel Polymers and Plastics Society
Dr. Naum Naveh, a faculty member at the Department of Polymers and Plastics Engineering, has been unanimously appointed the next President of the Israel Polymers and Plastics Society. The Society has set itself the aim of promoting the industry and academic education in polymer technology. The Society, therefore, serves as a home for all researchers and industry leaders in the field of polymers and plastics in Israel, and currently numbers some 500 members. Special emphasis is placed on integrating the students studying for various degrees and specializing in polymers and plastics engineering in industry. The Israeli Society maintains contact with international societies such as the Society of Plastics Engineers and the Polymer Processing Society.
Dr. Naveh continues a glorious tradition of Society presidents who are associated with the Department of Polymers and Plastics Engineering. He is preceded over the years by Prof. Shmuel Kenig, Prof. Hanna Dodiuk, Prof. Amos Ophir, Prof. Anna Dotan, and Dr. Yiftach Nir, all of whom are faculty members at the Department. It is worthy of note that the current president, Dr. Yanir Shaked, is a Department graduate who completed his PhD at Shenkar in a combined program with the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Dr. Naum Naveh
Prof. Hanna Dodiuk, Head of the Department of Polymers and Plastics Engineering, congratulated Dr. Naveh on his appointment, saying: “It is a great honor for us that Dr. Naum Naveh, who began working at Shenkar about two years ago after twenty years of activity at Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, where he served in senior positions in R&D of plastics and polymers, was found worthy of serving in this key position, whose aim is collaboration between industry and academe in the important sector of polymers and plastics engineering. I anticipate that additional members of the Department’s faculty will continue this glorious dynasty in the future, and will contribute to strengthening the connection between academe and industry, which is a cornerstone of the Department’s activities.
Dr. Naveh’s term in office is two years, which commences in early 2018, and will be formally announced during the Society’s annual conference on January 9, 2018, at City Tower Hall in Ramat Gan.
