A Groundbreaking Academic Collaboration Between Israel and Morocco: Senior Representatives of the Euro-Mediterranean University in Fez Visit Shenkar
Shenkar was delighted to host senior representatives from the Université Euro-Méditerranéenne de Fès (UEMF), from Fez, Morocco, for an introductory visit.
In January 2022, a collaboration agreement regarding research, a student and staff exchange program, and further education was signed between Shenkar – Engineering. Design. Art. and EUMF University.
Following the signing, a delegation from Shenkar visited UEMF last May. The delegation included professor Sheizaf Rafaeli, president of Shenkar, professor Shmuel Kenig, vice president of Shenkar and director of the Research and Development Authority, and the deans of the engineering and design faculties, among other senior figures. André Azoulay, senior advisor to king Mohammed VI of Morocco, was also present at the signing ceremony (albeit remotely).

Early in the new year, in January 2023, a delegation of senior staff members from UEMF visited Israel and Shenkar as part of a reciprocal visit. The delegation included professor Mostapha Bousmina, president of the university and chancellor of Morocco's Hassan II Academy of Science and Technology; professor Salim Bounou, vice president; professor Maha Gmira, dean of the Faculty for Digital Engineering and Artificial Intelligence; and Ms. Ghada Bouhlal, director of the Unit for Entrepreneurship and Socioeconomic Cooperation.
The delegation members participated in a joint academic symposium for the two institutions, which focused on two main topics: artificial intelligence and its application in agriculture and food security, and artificial intelligence for developing smart transportation in coastal cities. Officials from the Israeli Ministry of Regional Development and industrial experts from Israel and Morocco also participated in the visit.

Over the past few months, the two institutions have submitted joint requests for funding in the field of artificial intelligence in agriculture and water, for the purposes of creating suitable infrastructures and conducting multidisciplinary studies.
The joint activities, student and staff exchanges, and academic instruction activities between Shenkar and UEMF are partially funded by the Regional Cooperation Ministry, which works to promote relationships between Israel and the countries in the region in the areas of education, research, culture, society, economics and more.
