Avia Bar - graduate of the Department of Polymer Materials Engineering, was selected as the Outstanding Doctoral Student for 2021 in the Department of Plastic Engineering at the University of Massachusetts
Ms. Avia Bar graduated from the Polymer Materials Engineering Dept. in Shenkar 4 years ago and started her Doctoral studies, in a direct track, in the framework of the Shenkar-UMass Lowell Agreement for a joint Ph.D. program under the sponsorship of the Pernick Fund.
Avia who intends to submit her Thesis, composed of 3 papers, in a few weeks, was notified, last week, that she is was elected as the outstanding graduate student graduating in 2021, from the department of Plastics Engineering in UMass Lowell.
In her Thesis work Avia has been investigating and developing a new generation of stretchable electrical conductive materials, based on carbon nanotube yarns, with elongation of over 200%, having constant electrical conductivity regardless of the stretching level. These materials are aimed at wearable electronics and soft robotics. Her Thesis supervisors are Prof. Joey Mead from UMass Lowell, and Prof. Hanna Dodiuk and Prof. Shmuel Kenig from Shenkar.
