Alice Gottesman Jewelry Design Department: Opening a new chapter!
The highly regarded Jewelry Design department of Shenkar (and the only department honored with a right to grant Bachelor’s degrees in Jewelry Design in Israel!) has celebrated the 20th anniversary of its establishment!
The third decade starts with a thrilling upgrade – the move into a brand new Alice Gottesman workshop building, appropriately named after the jewelry designer and generous donor of the space.
This exciting architectural piece, designed by Joseph Cory, is an inspiration on its own, and features amazing facilities for students to play with – modernized individual workstations, contemporary classrooms filled with natural light and great equipment.
In an insightful speech, Ms. Gottesman shared her vision as a jewelry patron: "I feel proud to take part in providing a building for students who have the desire to design jewelry, and I hope that every student who goes through the doors of the building will find the right tools for significant design and success."
The anniversary and the opening of the new work space was celebrated on March 10, 2018 with a poignant ceremony, attended by senior executives of Shenkar and wider community, including the first jeweler in Israel – Moshe Ben David – a 91-year-old silversmith.
The house warming proceeded in style, with an exclusive sale of spectacular works by the department’s graduates, students and lecturers. Take a peek at the photo gallery!
