MEDesign: When Medical Meets Design
6/5/19 9:00 - 18:00 Shenkar // Anne Frank 12 st, Ramat Gan
We are pleased to announce that the department of Industrial Design at Shenkar is currently gearing up towards the MEDesign – international design convention focusing on product design within the medical and healthcare sectors. The event will take place on May 6, 2019.
Resulting from the local high-tech industry and the profusion of start-ups, an extensive variety of medical products and devices are being developed in the Israeli market. Design engagement makes these products more effective, efficient and aesthetic, providing patients and medical teams with meaningful and high-quality user experiences.

In a world, where designers are becoming cultural icons thanks to the fashionable consumer goods they style, the product designer specializing in medical hardware is not seen as particularly glamorous. The subject of this convention is to shed light on this fascinating innovative field and examine the legacy of a designer as a central influencing factor in the medical and healthcare industry.
The participants, featuring senior Israeli designers, as well as a special guest from the Royal College of Art, London – Prof. Ashley Hall, Director of the MRes Healthcare & Design program, will present on projects that illustrate development processes, the designer’s role in technological development teams, the use of working models, the experiments to assess ergonomic parameters, etc.
Historical changes that occurred in style and design of medical products over the years will also be examined, as well as the way design language alterates from sub-field to sub-field, e.g. home medical devices, children devices or dental devices, to name a few.
Don’t miss out!
