Professor Terry Schreuer Chosen to Head the Azrieli Faculty of Design at Shenkar
Professor Terry Schreuer - Dean of the Azrieli Faculty of Design
The supreme academic council of Shenkar has elected professor Terry Schreuer as dean of the Azrieli Faculty of Design.
Schreuer was born in Tel Aviv and graduated from the WIZO Haifa Academy of Design and Education in 1985.
For about three decades, Schreuer has taught, lectured, curated and authored curricula in visual communications. Upon finishing her studies and returning from her stay in London, during which time she worked as the in-house designer for Sir Terence Conran in the Habitat and The Conran Shop chains, for the past decade she partnered with the book designer, the late Hava Mordohovich. Afterward, she ran an independent studio, working with clients such as the Hermitage Museum in Russia, IBM, the Supreme Court, the Gabriel Sherover Foundation, and Bloomingdale’s USA. During her years as a designer, she won awards and decorations in Israel and abroad.
In 2000, she was appointed head of the Graphic Design – Visual Communication Department at the WIZO Haifa Academy of Design and Education, a position she held until 2013. In 2012, she was appointed the first (female) professor in Israel for visual communication on behalf of the Council for Higher Education.
Professor Schreuer is a member of the appointment and approval committees of curricula on behalf of the Council for Higher Education, is involved in and leads international projects in and outside the academy, serves as a judge in prestigious design competitions and is a member of professional committees and steering committees for art and design projects.
She will replace professor Yael Moriah, who served as the acting dean of the Faculty of Design in 2017 and was appointed dean of the Faculty in 2019.
Professor Sheizaf Rafaeli, president of Shenkar: “I would like to congratulate professor Terry Schreuer on joining Shenkar and the Azrieli Faculty of Design. I am sure that Terry will continue to lead the faculty to significant achievements in Israel and worldwide in design, art, innovation and creativity. I want to take this opportunity to thank professor Yael Moriah, who has been the head of the faculty for the past six years. We wish her continued success in her professional and personal endeavors.”
Professor Schreuer: “I thank the Shenkar management for choosing me and entrusting me with the key to the magical door of the Faculty of Design. The position allows another point of view into the world of design and design education which at this point in time is required, once again, to re-emerge in the face of a fast-paced reality and to seek the balance between the transient and the timeless.”
