The Community Outreach Unit’s TEDx Event
“The saying goes that some moments in life are worth dying for. Well, I say that some moments in life are worth living for! And the evening when our student communities came together on one stage to tell the stories of their lives was certainly one of those moments,” says Keren Bittan Shemesh, director of Shenkar’s Community Outreach Unit, who hosted the TEDx event at Shenkar.
It was a remarkable evening, one that brought communities and hearts together, with members of the Pardes Katz student village taking the stage to tell their stories and talk about the experiences they collected along the way.
Tozeret Haaretz Student Communities, run in collaboration with Shenkar, is a program that works to establish activist communities in Israel’s geo-social periphery with the aim of growing young communities who will contribute to creating a more equitable society.
Pardes Katz is a neighborhood with a mix of religious and secular residents, and the potential for activism in it is enormous. It is located near Ramat Gan and Shenkar in particular.
The encounter between our group of motived young people and the residents of the neighborhood benefits everyone and generates meaningful social impact.
The community meets once a week for a team-building evening and organizes community Shabbat events, holidays, trips, seminars, and more. The students are also active in dozens of social projects.
