Shenkar's Department of Fashion Design walks loud and proud at Tel Aviv Fashion Week 2019
For Tel Aviv Fashion Week 2019, the department of Fashion Design at Shenkar celebrated the connection between past and present, in their flamboyant rainbow display – ‘we’re all different and we’re all equal’.
The show began with a spectacular opening from the second year students of the History of Clothing course: the project investigated historical garments from past centuries and culminated in extraordinarily accurate replicas, reproducing original historical designs.
The students used original period materials, sewing patterns, sewing techniques, decorations, and accessories, supported by information obtained from archives in leading museums and private collections around the world.
Yet, the collection (although historical in origin) was given a contemporary twist through a playful change of color palette, with each garment designed in one of the seven colors of the spectrum, from red to violet.
This visual statement marked the department's choice to support and celebrate the beauty of the LGBTQ community.
Following this dignified overture, a sequence of around thirty personal, avant-garde, bold, thoughtful, and humorous designs walked the runway, presenting the student work from within the various courses taught in the Fashion Design department, including: Tailored Garments, Menswear, Knitwear, Sportswear, Sustainable Fashion Design and much more.
Continuing the support of equality amongst the LGBTQ community, the show was concluded by the couple Ohad Eitan Nuri and Roi Amoyal – accomplished bridal designers and entrepreneurs, who own the joint parenting venture Oro that focuses on equal rights for surrogacy.
They proudly summarized the themes of the event and walked the catwalk with their son Rene Nuri Harel, wearing a shirt by a local brand Mismas that stated: "It's only your heart that determines what a family is".
